Elizabeth M.E. Uppuluri

CNM, WHNP-BC

Elizabeth’s journey into Midwifery started almost 20 years ago when she was pregnant with her son. “I became fascinated with the life growing inside me and I was empowered by all of the amazing things my body was capable of. I delivered my son with Beach Cities Midwifery in 2004 at a time when very few midwives existed in Orange County and birth options and education were very limited. Choosing midwifery centered care felt like trail blazing at that time because very few alternatives existed for birthing people.”

Being pregnant and realizing how limited resources were Elizabeth found her passion while studying natural birth, eastern and western herbalism, lactation, and attachment parenting. “When I was pregnant hypno-birthing didn’t exist and you couldn’t just walk into target and buy a baby carrier or raspberry leaf tea, we were making our own and educating each other. We were at the forefront of all this creation and it was a really magical time.”

Elizabeth became a devoted student of natural birth and lactation and earned certification as a birth doula and lactation educator. It wasn’t until she became a birth assistant with Beach cities Midwifery that Elizabeth experienced that singular moment that would become the basis of her life’s work. “Here I was watching a midwife catch this baby and I was captivated. There was something so nurturing about this particular birth. There was a deep energy exchange between midwife and patient and in watching that, I just knew this was what I was meant to do with my life.”

In 2009 Elizabeth sold her thriving ayurvedic massage therapy practice and started Nursing school. She graduated from West Coast University in 2012 with honors and started her nursing career in a busy community hospital as an L&D nurse where she spent the next several years honing her bedside skills. In 2018 Elizabeth graduated from Cal State Fullerton with her master’s degree in Midwifery and Women’s health care.

Elizabeth accepted a Midwifery position with a large HMO and spent 2 years working in a busy midwifery practice that left little time to focus on her patients. “Returning to my roots at Beach Cities feels like coming home. It feels as if I’ve finally made that full circle and I’m so excited to be joining a group of such talented individuals. I am looking forward to finally bringing all I have learned in the last 20 years to my patients.

It’s been wonderful watching the profession grow and to now live in a time where birthing people and new families have so many options, it feels right carrying that forward. It’s a deep honor and my dream come true to be back at Beach Cities serving the community I love so much.” Elizabeth in her free time enjoys spending time with her blended family, camping, knitting, and most recently conquering baking sourdough bread.

Britani Paul

CNM, WHNP-BC

Britani was born and raised in Southern California and is thrilled to be serving the women of her community by offering midwifery care and childbirth options. Her love for midwifery stems from the belief that women’s bodies are powerful! She is honored to have the responsibility of ensuring safety while bearing witness to the strength of women as they birth on their own terms. She loves that birth is beautifully unique each and every time; it truly is an environment she loves.

Her nursing career started with working as a labor and delivery nurse at Long Beach Memorial/Miller children’s in Long Beach for the previous decade. This is where she gained knowledge of the birth process and respect for childbearing women.

Her passion to serve women and their families was ignited by her own experiences growing up and the lack of well-rounded care she received. Her dedication to caring for women led her to further her education at CSUF by becoming a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. It is her goal as a provider to give women all-encompassing care, the birth experience they desire, and empower them through all walks of life.

She is excited to be providing support, and empowering women to partner in decision-making regarding all health care choices. She is currently married and is a bonus mom to a handsome son.

When she’s not catching babies or in the clinic, you can find her at the baseball field with her son or hockey rink with her husband. She also enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and traveling with her family.

Throughout her career, she has consistently worked to improve birth experiences for the women she serves and is honored to be continuing that sacred work with the midwives of circle city midwifery. She is excited to bring her career to Aspen medical group and contribute to providing women with more childbirth options and fulfill her calling of being “with women” as they encounter various milestones from adolescence to pregnancy to menopause.

Aki Shishido

CNM, IBCLC

With over twenty years of expertise, Aki started her career in Tokyo, Japan, as a midwife. When she learned that the US had expanded the scope of midwifery, she joined the broad group of passionate midwives supporting women seeking safe, healthy, and natural births in the United States.

After relocating to the US in 2004, Aki began working as a med-surg registered nurse while attending midwifery school in New York. She initiated her career as a midwife at a standalone birth center after graduating from midwifery school.

Her exposure to Japanese culture enabled her to support numerous
unmedicated births. She relocated to Massachusetts after getting married and gaining expertise so she could work at a nearby hospital, understanding the difficulties that new mothers face when breastfeeding a newborn.

In 2015, Aki became certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She continues to seek more training to help mothers before, during, and after childbirth. In 2018, her desire to move to California came true. Since then, she has practiced at a freestanding birth center and at a Labor & Delivery in Orange County.

Aki has expressed her excitement about joining the Circle City Midwifery team. She also collaborates with Aspen Medical Group, Inc. When Aki isn't spending time with her family, she attends classes and pursues her passion for traditional Chinese medicine.

This is a pivotal life experience.
We are here to ensure it is safe & memorable.
