Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your business hours?

Our office business hours are Monday through Friday 9 am - 3 pm PDT.

  • How much does it cost to have my delivery at the birth center? (out of pocket)

We accept most major insurances and payment methods. When you book a consultation with us whether you are paying cash, using your insurance, or both you will have a chance to discuss the finances with our billing team at the time of your consultation, prior to establishing care with us.

We believe in up-front disclosure of costs and expectations so that you have the power to make informed decisions about your healthcare and pregnancy. Call and book your consultation today!

  • Where are you located?

Circle City Midwifery Birth Center is conveniently located in Corona, CA off the 15 and the 91 freeways.

  • What does the consultation consist of?

Your initial consult visit with us is your opportunity to meet with one of our midwives either in-person or virtually and get to know a bit about our practice before you make your decision to establish care with Circle City Midwifery. We believe that part of informed decision making in healthcare includes being an active participant in choosing your healthcare team. In traditional healthcare settings patients are often told where they must go for care by their insurance companies and frequently have little say in who cares for them during their pregnancies and births.

We do things differently here, and want you to know all the most important details about our practice before you schedule your first prenatal intake appointment.

During your consultation you will have an opportunity to tour the facility with our staff and/or midwives, Have 30 or so minutes to sit and speak directly with one of our midwives and review your medical history and appropriateness for care. We want you to learn about what we expect from you as our patient should you choose us, and we want to know about what it is that you are looking for in a midwife team so we can ensure that we are the right fit for your needs.

After meeting with our midwife you will have the opportunity to discuss your insurance and financial obligations with one of our billers so that you know exactly what your financial obligations will be in advance.

We want you to make an informed decision about your care and we do our best to share everything with you up front at this visit so that you have all the information you need to make the best choice for you and your family. Call and book your consultation today!

  • Do you accept late transfer of care into your practice?

Yes! We accept late transfer of care up to 36 weeks gestation. Our requirement is that you schedule and attend your consultation prior to 35 weeks and then schedule and attend your New OB intake appointment by 36 weeks and have all previous prenatal records with you for that first appointment. This ensures that your prenatal care has already been reviewed by one of our midwives and we have agreed to accept you into care for the duration of your pregnancy.

  • Do you deliver breech presentations?

Circle City Midwifery has strict care standards that help us to ensure that you remain low risk throughout your pregnancy and delivery and help us ensure that the birth center is the safest place for you to deliver your baby.

Breech deliveries while within the midwifery scope of practice, create a higher risk profile than we are comfortable with managing in the out of hospital setting. For these reasons we do not deliver breech presentations at the birth center.

All of our patients are required to have a very short complementary abdominal ultrasound at 36 weeks to ensure that their baby is in the head down position prior to the onset of labor. Please see the “Requirements for care” section in our FAQs for more information on patient responsibilities and expectations.

  • What are your patient requirements for care?

It is important to remember that birth centers are out of hospital (OOH) environments with limited in-house resources. Because we are an OOH facility one of our jobs as your midwife team is to ensure that the birth center continues to be the safest place for your care and the birth of your baby. We do that by providing you with all of the tools you need for success and by monitoring your health and risk-profile throughout your pregnancy. We require very routine blood tests and periodic ultrasounds in order to assess your health throughout your pregnancy and ensure that your pregnancy continues to be low-risk and appropriate for care in the OOH settings. Your health and the health of your baby are our top priority.

    Routine tests include

    • In early pregnancy: Initial prenatal panel (blood & urine tests) and confirmation ultrasound or NT ultrasound.

    • Around 20 weeks: We require a routine Level II ultrasound called the “Anatomy Scan” that takes a detailed look at your baby and assesses for any growth anomaly. This helps us ensure that the baby is growing healthfully and is appropriate for delivery in the OOH setting.

    • Around 28 weeks: Repeat blood tests and 1hr Glucose tolerance test (we have 4 different options for ingesting the 50 grams of sugar required for the glucose test and one sugar- free option should that be necessary.) We will work with you to find the best testing option for you.

    • Around 36-37 weeks: Repeat blood and urine tests, as well as Group Beta Streptococcus (GBS) swab testing, and a complementary abdominal ultrasound to confirm head-down position of your baby. We require all pts to be tested for GBS. In the event that you test positive for GBS we require treatment with antibiotics in labor to reduce the risk of GBS transmission to your infant during delivery.

  • Do we offer home births?

Circle City Midwifery has temporarily discontinued our homebirth offerings while we focus on establishing our Midwife-led hospitalist program. Stay tuned for all the exciting things happening and to come with CCM. We are a rapidly growing practice and are eager to offer the community a full range of midwifery services in the very near future.
